Golden Globes: Ricky Gervais was surely bumped up a few spots on several enemies lists in the wake of his cringe-larious Golden Globes monologue.

Oh yeah, I don’t think he’s hosting again. But at least he went for all the tasteless jokes. Had me laughing a lot.
pre-show, he sounded like he was a bit reluctant and expressed surprise at being invited back in the first place. maybe he thought he’d rather go out with a bang. that if he was never going to host again he might as well make all those inappropriate jokes everyone thinks about but never says.
In Defense of The Social Network
heathicorn:
- So, as award shows are prone to do, there was heavy serving of general bitterness, hate, and wank going around post-GG.
- I was surprised, however, to see how much it was being spewed in the midst of the awards, and how it was almost entirely directed at The Social Network.

#8 - Inception
Yeah, I know, this is really low, even lower than I was expecting, but fucking hear me out.
I started following this film in the Summer of 2009 (I have a man crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt, leave me alone.) I had huge expectations for it. I thought it was going to be one of the greatest films ever made. I thought it was going to sweep the Oscars. But, at that point I had only seen a short teaser trailer and saw the cast list.
I did love this, every second of it. I just didn’t see what was so special about it. It’s all been done before. The dream sequences (Eternal Sunshine), the special effects (pretty much every Hollywood movie.). The characters were made to either be hated (Cobb) or just sort of flat (Arthur).
So, don’t get me wrong, Inception was incredible, just not that incredible.
Storyline: 9/10
Acting: 7/10
Cinematography: 7/10
Writing: 9/10
Tilt: 8/10
Overall: 8/10.
yeah I don’t know why people rave about this movie. It’s a good, solid film but it’s not groundbreaking.
WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?
neck and neck tie between an image of myself with my mum’s two dogs in the backyard of the house we lived in in Sydney; and an image of myself in the bathroom of that same house. Not sure what I was actually doing in the bathroom; I believe I had brought the hose inside? I would have been no older than about 3.5 for either memory and I don’t know which came first.
Once a doctrine, however irrational, has gained power in a society, millions of people will believe it rather than feel ostracized and isolated.

I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth, that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there’s little good evidence. Far better it seems to me, in our vulnerability, is to look death in the eye and to be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides.
